A once charming little Thai village about an hour east of Chiangmai.
Now it’s overcrowded with the only parking spaces about a mile outside the village.
It looks there is now so much traffic that they are having to upgrade the road in and out the other side ( the road appears to be closed past the waterfall)
I was here about 3 years ago. It was crowded but not nearly as bad as December 2025. But you can often find a space if you follow the road all the way through and park at the waterfall. This is about 1km along the main road after you pass the coffee shop viewpoint at the of the hill.
The waterfall itself is a nice spot that most people visiting Mae Kampong will miss.

The very slow drive through the village is incredibly slow. Caused by the general public standing in the middle of the road taking pictures on their phones then looking at it for a minute then taking several more with no sense of urgency.
The coffee shop at the top was full on this day so all the seats which you can take the obligatory photo (which has probably been taken a million times over) were taken and about a 20 to 30 minute wait for your order.
